The idea for Star for Life was born when the founders saw how people in South Africa, not least children, were stricken by HIV and AIDS. In cooperation with leaders, behavioural scientists, communicators and musicians from South Africa and Sweden, they took on the challenge to create the programme. Initially, the initiative was named Star School. It was later renamed to Star for Life.
The pilot programme began in mid-2005 at Siphosabadletshe High School, situated in the KwaZulu-Natal region of South Africa. The school has almost 1,000 students and 30 teachers. The programme was well received by both students, teachers and parents.
